Rebuilding Together
The Safe at Home program helps older adults and people with disabilities living in DC reduce the risk of falls in partnership with the DC Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL). Currently the DC Department of Aging and Community Living offers grab bars, chair lifts and other safety modifications for DC resident below 80% Area Median Income (AMI). Rebuilding Together DC • Alexandria will provide the same services for qualifying households who make 80-100% AMI, working with occupational therapists.
Application: Call or apply online. Concerning eligibility, folks who are eligible are low income homeowners who cannot maintain their homes (typically elderly, persons with disabilities, veterans, and families with children), as are nonprofit facilities, schools, and public spaces that serve low-income residents. To be considered for home assistance, candidates must complete and submit an application form and provide documentation of total household income, such as tax forms or pay stubs. Some of our clients are referred through congregations, schools, community agencies and service groups, or by self-referral.
